Entry point: Journal tab

Add a journal entry

To add a journal entry, click the Journal tab from the Dashboard, then click New entry. Write your note in markdown, optionally tag it, and optionally link it to a debt, transaction, or goal. Save.

How to do it

  1. From the Dashboard, click the Journal tab.
  2. Click New entry.
  3. Write your note. Markdown is supported (headings, bold, lists, links).
  4. Optional: add tags like windfall, setback, milestone, or your own.
  5. Optional: link the entry to a related object (a specific debt, a transaction, a goal).
  6. Click Save.

Why use the journal

The journal captures the why behind the numbers. A bonus, a missed payment, a strategy change, a life event that affected your spending. Clarity reads journal entries when answering reflective questions like "what changed last quarter?"

Common questions

Can I attach files to a journal entry?

Yes. Drag and drop files into the entry editor. PDFs, images, and text files are supported. Attachments are stored encrypted at rest.

Are journal entries private?

Yes. Like everything else in your account, journal entries are only visible to you and to Clarity when answering your questions.

Can I edit a journal entry later?

Yes. Click any entry in the Journal tab and use the edit action.

Can Clarity write journal entries for me?

Clarity will not write to your journal unprompted. You can ask Clarity to draft an entry ("draft a journal note about the bonus I got last week") and Clarity returns a draft you can edit and save yourself.
