Check your budget status
Ask Clarity for a real-time view of how your spending compares to your monthly budgets.
How to do it
Ask Clarity:
"How am I doing on my budget?" "Am I over budget anywhere?" "Show me my spending limits." "How much grocery budget do I have left?"
Clarity returns each budget with the current month's spend, amount remaining, percentage used, and whether any alert has been triggered.
What you see
For each budget:
- Category — which spending type the budget covers
- Monthly cap — your set limit
- Spent this month — actual spend from Plaid transactions so far
- Remaining — how much headroom is left
- Percent used — spend as a percentage of the cap
- Alert status — whether you have crossed your alert threshold (default 80%)
- Over budget — whether you have exceeded the cap entirely
Alert threshold
When you cross your alert threshold (default 80%), Clarity flags that budget as "near limit." When you exceed the cap, it flags it as "over budget." You can ask Clarity to change the threshold at any time.
Common questions
Why does my spend show as $0?
Your bank account may need a sync. Ask Clarity to sync your bank data, or check the Banks tab for a connection issue.
Does budget tracking include pending transactions?
No. Pending transactions are excluded from budget calculations. Only posted transactions count.
Can I see last month's spend against a budget?
Budget tracking is always for the current calendar month. For historical spend, ask Clarity about your spending in a specific date range.
